Green Guatavita Lake & Reserve

This magnificent Muisca reserve is perhaps one of the closest to civilization and one of the most preserved through history, and you can visit it during the weekends with a private bilingual guide. The infamous legend of El Dorado has its origins at the great Guatavita lagoon, a hidden ecological treasure amidst lush landscapes that will inspire you to come back.

After your bilingual guide collects you on a private vehicle at the location you have suggested for pick up, tour heads north for about an hour drive to arrive at this sacred location home of the Muisca ancestors. There is enough time to walk around and absorb the local atmosphere around the cobblestone streets of the so called white house village.

Next stop will transport your mind and body to a paramount place while breathing the freshest air you can possibly imagine around the Guatavita lagoon. The natural sceneries of these valleys and the wide variety of fauna and flora are something we are not used to in our daily life. Take enough time to relax your soul as you learn the origins and the rituals that took place in ancient times. When you are ready, feel free to head back to civilization as you are driven along several stops where to sample a tasty snack such as the corn bread or “arepa” that is so popular in the region.
